Renowned Mathematician Àngel Jorba, Professor at UB and Member of the DANCE Network, Passes Away at the age of 61.
With deep sorrow, the Dynamical Systems research group at UIB announces the recent passing of our esteemed colleague, Àngel Jorba. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
His research focused on Celestial Mechanics and Astrodynamics, with a particular emphasis on space mission design. He also studied quasi-periodic motions in dynamical systems and developed numerical and semi-analytical tools to apply dynamical systems theory to real-world problems.
Dr. Jorba served as the director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Barcelona (IMUB) and led the former Department of Applied Mathematics and Analysis (MAiA). He also taught courses on Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, and Scientific Programming.
His unwavering commitment to research, teaching, and mentorship left a lasting impact on the field of dynamical systems and applied mathematics, contributing significantly to scientific progress and the training of future mathematicians.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire.
