Gravity seminar : Marcelo Rubio, Gran Sasso Science Institute — Advances and challenges in relativistic viscous hydrodynamics

September 18 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
I will discuss recent progress on the development of relativistic theories for the description of viscous fluid systems, and their implications in numerical relativity. After briefly reviewing previous attempts at dissipative fluid theories in fully relativistic frameworks, I will elaborate on some recent interesting works and, in particular, on the novel proposal by Bemfica, Disconzi, Noronha and Kovtun, known as BDNK theory. I will focus on the conformal, ultra-relativistic version of the theory, delving into some mathematical aspects of the corresponding initial-value problem. Finally, I will outline some of the challenges that I consider most exciting in this vast field of research.
