Gravity seminar : Gang Wang, Ningbo University — Enhancing Gravitational Wave Data Analysis with Alternative Time-Delay Interferometry Configurations
May 16 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Time-delay interferometry (TDI) is a crucial technique in space-based gravitational wave (GW) missions, enabling suppression of laser frequency noise by synthesizing equal-arm interferometry from inter-spacecraft measurements. While the Michelson TDI configuration is widely adopted for simulation and data analysis in LISA-like missions, its performance can degrade under realistic orbital dynamics and unequal-arm conditions. In this presentation, I introduce two alternative second-generation TDI configurations—hybrid Relay and PD4L—that demonstrate improved data analysis performance over the conventional Michelson scheme. Using simulated GW signals from coalescing massive black hole binaries, we assess and compare the parameter estimation capabilities of these configurations across both low and high frequency regimes. The results indicate that the proposed TDI alternatives offer enhanced accuracy and robustness, making them promising candidates for future GW data analysis.
