Gravity seminar: Shubhanshu Tiwari, University of Zurich — Reconstructing binary black hole properties without waveforms models : Case of wobbly orbits

December 5, 2024 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

In this talk, I will present the reconstruction of a generic transient gravitational wave signal using the principles of coherent energy collection in the time-frequency domain for, e.g. coherent waveburst. I will present that if we have three or more independent data streams which contain sufficiently loud gravitational wave signals, we can infer some interesting properties of a binary black hole system without needing any precise waveform models.

Moreover, I will present the example of identifying precession of a black hole binary system where the precession is interpreted as the time-varying inclination angle of the system, which can be reconstructed using the algorithm presented before.
