PhD Seminar: Maria de Lluc Planas Llompart, Estudiant del Programa de Doctorat de Física — Towards building a phenomenological aligned spin eccentric model: PhenomTEHM

June 17, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The increase in sensitivity and detector upgrades planned in the coming years will challenge existing waveform models and demand considerable improvements in accuracy, parameter space coverage, and computational efficiency. In general relativity, binary systems of black holes are characterized by nine intrinsic parameters: two spin vectors, the mass ratio and two parameters associated with eccentricity. Historically, waveform models have concentrated on specific areas of this parameter space, often neglecting eccentricity effects. Orbital eccentricity is however crucial for tracing the astrophysical origins of these systems, and accurate waveform models are essential for its robust measurement. In this work, we introduce PhenomTEHM, a new phenomenological time-domain model for eccentric aligned-spin binaries. This model integrates eccentric post-Newtonian corrections into the phase and amplitude of the existing PhenomTHM model in a way that retains the correct non-eccentric limit. I present initial results demonstrating the model’s performance across selected regions of the parameter space and its comparisons with numerical relativity simulations.
