Abstract:
In Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), there is a turbulent magnetic field amplification when two newtron stars (NS) merge, initially triggered by the Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability (KHI) at very small scales. This amplification has been studied through simulations, but nowadays (and not even in the near future) we are not capable to resolve all the dynamics involved in it. One, then, can implement subgrid scale (SGS) models to go beyond the grid scale, without performing simulations with more resolution, to simulate the behaviour of a finer resolution with much less computational cost. Here we present the results some binary neutron star simulations with the gradient SGS model.
