Seminar: A nuclear physics — multi-messenger astronomy analysis of binary neutron star mergers, Tim Dietrich (AEI)

April 30, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We show how a multi-messenger analysis of the gravitational wave signal GW170817 and its electromagnetic counterparts AT2017gfo and GRB170817A, together with information provided by NICER, the radio observations of PSR J0740+6620, and nuclear theory computations provide new constraints on the neutron-star equation of state and the Hubble constant. Similarly, we also discuss that a non-detection of a kilonova for the second binary neutron-star merger detection GW190425 placed constraints on the properties of the system.
