Seminar: (Big) Data mining Gaia: detection and use of Galactic open clusters, Alfred Castro-Ginard (ICCUB-IEEC, Barcelona)

Gaia has had a tremendous impact on the cluster census in the Milky Way allowing us to detect hundreds of new objects, redefining our knowledge of the open cluster population. The enormous wealth of Gaia data, together with automated data mining procedures, represent a step forward in detecting and characterising clusters. In this talk, I will present our procedure to blind search for open clusters in the Galactic disc and its application to Gaia EDR3 up to magnitude G = 18. I will also review our recent results concerning the Galactic structure, particularly focusing on the Milky Way spiral arms.
