Seminar: “MHD Turbulence: modelling the small scales from the large scales”
July 17, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
RICARD AGUILERA MIRET
Abstract: During the merger of two neutron stars, MHD turbulence plays an important role. The energy transfer between the kinetic and magnetic energies is particularily effective at small scales, which are then very important. While the large and intermedium scales of these kind of simulations can be computed directly, the small ones need to be modeled due to the excessive computational resources needed. Here we implement a mathematically-based sub-grid-scale model, known as the gradient model, in the Newtonian MHD equations to construct the unresolved scale from the information of the large one. This is the first step toward the inclusion of SGS models in the relativistic version of MHD, applicable to binary neutron stars mergers.
