Matheus Aguiar-Kriginsky Silva and Ramon Oliver (PI) have been awarded observation time in Sunrise III.

Matheus Aguiar-Kriginsky Silva and Ramon Oliver (PI) have been awarded 60 min of observing time at the Sunrise III balloon borne telescope. This mission will fly in June and will make uninterrupted observations of the Sun for several days. The telescope will operate at some 37 km height, where the Earth’s atmosphere is so thin that atmospheric seeing (i.e. image blurring) will have minimum effect on the data. In our proposal, we will study the physical nature of violent plasma jets called spicules that shoot out above the solar surface. The other members of the proposal belong to Northumbria University (UK), Aberystwyth University (UK), the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Spain) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Austria).
